SENATE ARMED SERVICES COMMITTEE HEARING ON "POSTURE OF THE ARMY"
On Thursday, 12 April 2018, the Senate Armed Services Committee held a hearing titled, "Posture of the Department of the Army." The purpose of the hearing was to receive testimony on the posture of the Department of the Army in review of the Defense Authorization Request for Fiscal Year 2019 and the Future Years Defense Program. The witnesses were the Honorable Mark T. Esper, Secretary of the Army and General Mark A. Milley, USA, Chief of Staff of the Army. Topics were wide-ranging and included the effects of budget instability on Army readiness and modernization, the future location of the Army Futures Command, plans for Army acquisition reform, plans for the incorporation of emergent technologies into weapon programs, programs to upgrade combat vehicles, current training challenges, the challenge of balancing readiness with demands for forces by combatant commanders, and current operations in Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria and Europe.
